Summer, Starbucks and Shopping!

I was sitting outside, again, under my pine trees sipping a Starbucks and considering what to write about for my blog. It's a beautiful, not too hot, summer day and the sun is shining nicely.
Pro: As a spinster, I get to put my feet up when I want, and just sit for as long as I want. (dishes can wait, and so can the laundry and supper preparation).
Con: I really need a Life Coach so I can change my habits. Dishes and laundry do not get done. Take-out is my food of choice.
While I'm deciding on what to write, (my carefully outlined topics for the year have completely gone out the window, by the way) I'm looking at the side of my house. There is nothing better (my mind wanders a lot) than sitting here with the sun streaming through the branches. (Stupid squirrels! Go away!) I have my Starbucks and iPad all set to write... However, there is nothing to see but brick and siding, dry grass and weeds. I think "I wish I could sit outside in my backyard and look at my beautiful plants and flowers but this time of day it is too hot and there no breeze". Then BOOM, it hit's me.... I'm going to put plants all along the side of my house. Jazz it up a bit... add some colour to the beige and ivory.
Great idea! I get out my project book, I love, love, love projects... anyway, I start to plan. I have to be careful because what I wanted to see would cost a bit and I'll admit I have a black thumb when it comes to plants. I killed a cactus.... I do have an aloe vera plant that is surviving, barely.
So, I start to think about what to put in my flower garden. Since I've lived in this house for about 13 years I pretty much know how the direction of the sun goes. Mentally energized I get excited. Shopping! It doesn't matter that it's 'flowers and plants'... it's shopping! So off I go... writing completely forgotten. Home Hardware, Home Depot, Canadian Tire.... I hit all the places where plants are being sold. Of course I needed dirt, lots and lots of dirt, cedar chips (weeds are not my friends), edging, the easier to put in the better. New nozzles for the front and back water hoses. You name it I bought it.... if I couldn't get it that day... I ordered roadside pickup. Thanks COVID, real nice...
Pro: As a spinster, I see a flower garden through my own perception. So, having no man trying to change my perception of how a flower garden should look or how many flowers to buy... yada yada yada.... I go crazy.
Con: There is no man to curtail my spending. Sigh...
My flower garden looks great.... 4 days in the hot sun, 8 hours a day... I just wonder why my my dishes and laundry do not get done. Oh, well.
Speaking of shopping! (see... mind wandering) I have a friend that I do things with, like movies, day trips... we have a wonderful time together and we are great travelling buddies. The thing is he still works so it's hard to get together for a Starbucks let alone a day trip. Spending curbed (for a bit).
I have two besties. One that I see once a week rain or shine, (if my body allows me that is...) Thursdays I go grab a Starbucks and as she just lives up the road, it's perfect. We are different but the same, if that makes sense. (heh, there is my little chipmunk, he's so cute... or she, I should't assume). While my friend has a hard time sitting for 10 minutes I can sit for 10 hours... literally, if I'm in my hyper-focus stage. Even though she's physically active and I'm mentally active our friendship works. She has a rule though, about shopping... if something comes in the house, something goes out. Me? Nah... don't care... bring it on... We try to go on a birthday shopping spree once a year. COVID interfered with that this last year. Spending curbed (for a bit).
My other bestie? We try to see each other as much as we can, but it's hard. She lives only about 15 or 20 minutes away by car but our schedules match up rarely. Normally I grab a Starbucks and drive to her place, luckily there is one close to where she lives. (Heh!! there's a rabbit!! Cool!!). When we do get together it is at least 3 hours of yakety yak catching up... it's awesome. COVID has made her very careful about going into stores.
Spending curbed (a bit).
COVID really has changed the way people shop. Thank goodness there is AMAZON and eBay....
Pro: As a spinster it's great that I get to choose who, when, where and how much time I spend with my friends. No man to feel left out back home... and I can shop when I want.
Con: It appears I do a lot of shopping and Starbucks...
Great segue to introduce my next post.... habit changing... why I keep doing the things I do...
Write to you soon....
